Be Honest and Sincere Worship is a spiritual exercise that, by its very nature, requires complete honesty. When you worship God, He wants you to be completely honest in what you say. You must believe in God and be willing to obey Him. It follows that true worship must start with a relationship with God. It must be compatible with God's nature, which is Spirit, and be based on the truth, which is Jesus Christ the Son of God. Worship Only God There are so many religions in the world. People try to reach God in so many different ways. Many of them are sincere. They are seeking the truth about God. They feel a need for Him in their lives. But, the central question is how does God want you to worship him? Your Creator is the only true God. He does not want you to pray to any other gods, persons, spirits, images, or things. Not even to something that represents Him. An idol is anything which takes God's rightful place in our lives. Things which are not bad in themselves, even good things, can become false gods. The question you must face is this: Where is the center and focus of your life? The answer to this question will determine your object of worship. Success in business, looking important in front of other people, education, money, sports . . . none of these things can meet your deepest needs. After the surge of excitement, when the music has stopped, the friends have gone home, and the lights go out, what then? If you turn away from God, nothing will satisfy you. God has made us for Himself, and our hearts can find no rest until they rest in Him.

Thank the Lord for His Blessing Isn't it interesting that one of the first things a parent teaches a child to say is: "thank you." Parents want their children to show respect and consideration for other people. Strangely, we often forget to say "thank you" to God, our Heavenly Father--the person who has done more for us than anyone else. He wants to receive our thanks. We can give God thanks in the silence of our hearts, in prayer, or by singing songs of praise to Him. The Bible tells us that we should praise Him . . . we should worship Him . . . we should sing songs of praise to the Lord. Worship Humbly but With Faith Recognize that you cannot make yourself good enough to come before a holy God. However, since you have asked Jesus to be your Saviour, God has forgiven you and accepted you as His child. So talk to Him as to your Father and tell Him whatever is in your heart. |
